7,000 line up for Mansfield Halloween Parade

October 28, 2010

MANSFIELD -- A haunted house, filled with ghouls and goblins, was the focal point of the Richland County Children Services entry in the 2010 Mansfield Halloween Parade on Wednesday evening.

Organizers estimated that 7,000 local residents lined the streets downtown to take part in the annual event, which began at the intersection of Marion and Park avenues and proceeded through Central Park in downtown Mansfield.

About 50 RCCS employees, their spouses and their children walked along with the float, passing out bags and bags of candy to children and others lining the street along the parade route.

"It was a wonderful evening in terms of weather and the crowds have never been larger," said agency communications supervisor Carl Hunnell. "It was an amazing sight as we approached Park Avenue East and saw so many children and adults lined up six or seven deep all the way to Central Park.

"Agency staffers had a great time handing out candy and talking to people we met along the way," Hunnell said.

"Our staff did a wonderful job in quickly designing and building our haunted house and the people we met Wednesday night loved it."

The agency, which spent the last few months also participating in the Shelby Summerfest, Richland County Fair, Lexington Blueberry Festival and the Bellville Street Fair, next gears up for the agency's Staff Enrichment 5K Run/Walk for the Kids on Saturday morning, Oct. 30.

The agency's next parade will be the Mansfield Holiday Parade in November.
