'Pause for a child' to help prevent abuse and neglect
March 20, 2012
The Ohio Children's Trust Fund is sponsoring a statewide campaign to increase awareness of child abuse and neglect prevention entitled: "Pause for a Child" during National Child Abuse Prevention month.
Organizers say many people see signs of child abuse and neglect and never report them. OCTF says, "The next time you see a child being abused ... pause."
Perhaps you notice behavioral changes in a child or hear something that makes you uncomfortable. Maybe you see a bruise on a child or actually witness abusive behavior by a parent.
Here are some steps you can take to prevent child abuse:
-- Start a conversation with the parent.
-- Divert the child's attention.
-- Look for an opportunity to praise the child or parent.
-- If the child is in immediate danger, please call 9-1-1.
-- Report abuse, ask questions or seek support by calling Richland County Children Services 24/7 at 419-774-4100.
